DESCRIPTION:Landmark on Main Street and Transition Town Port Washington present a conversation with Geovaira Hernandez and Ryan Madden\, Coalition Organizers for NY Renews\, led by moderator Melanie D'Arrigo\, community activist and former congressional candidate. The speakers will discuss legislative proposals that are designed to address the climate problem on the state and national levels.\n\nLearn more about the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA)\, passed into law last year in New York State\, and the national Thrive Agenda\, supported by the Green New Deal Network\, that is currently being proposed in Congress.\n\nPanelists:\n\nGeovaira Hern ndez is an Afro-Latinx Bronx native working to dismantle white supremacy\, colonialism\, environmental racism/classism\, and all subsequent forms of oppression by organizing people with lived experience\, money\, and policy. In her current role as Lead Coalition Organizer with NY Renews\, she is focused on furthering the coalition's CLCPA implementation and CCIA passage efforts\, as well as deepening understanding of truly intersectional environmental justice work towards a Just Transition.\n\n\n\nRyan Madden is a climate activist and organizer. He has experience working with civil society groups within United Nations climate change conferences\, non-profits on community-based energy efficiency programs and grassroots organizations on renewable energy advocacy and climate legislative campaigns. He currently serves as the Sustainability Organizer for the Long Island Progressive Coalition where he leads efforts for energy democracy and climate justice in New York State.\n\n \n\nModerator\n\nMelanie D'Arrigo is a local organizer\, mom of three and a former Congressional Candidate. She is a co-founder of the Sunrise Movement Nassau County and member of Transition Town Port Washington.
