SUMMARY:Yarn Arms Around Port
DESCRIPTION:Yarn Arms Around Port is a grassroots project designed to bring the community together to create public art\, while also raising awareness about the importance of caring for trees and the environment\, caring for one another\, and inclusivity. The project is being organized by Allison White in partnership with Residents Forward\, which is providing fiscal oversight\, technical support\, and environmental programming. The goal is to create colorful crochet pieces that will decorate up to 50 trees in Port Washington\, primarily on Main Street. As the name of the project implies\, the creations will utilize granny squares to form "arms" which will be attached to crocheted "hands" made in various skin tones. When the installation is completed on April 1 (to coincide with Earth month) we are hopeful it will attract visitors to Port Washington\, thus boosting local businesses and providing opportunities for fun and exploration to all. The kickoff for the project will take place via a Zoom program sponsored by Residents and the Port Washington Public Library on November 16 at 7 PM. During this program\, we will explain ways individuals and groups can become involved in the project\, including opportunities for beginning and experienced crocheters and those who have other skills.
